HC Deb 22 December 1982 vol 34 cc549-50W
Mr. Wardell

asked the Attorney-General how many cases have been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions involving horror comics; how many prosecutions have been undertaken regarding horror comics under the Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1955; and how many prosecutions of horror comics under the same Act have been successful.

The Attorney-General

Since the Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1955 became law 48 cases involving horror comics have been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Of these two prosecutions have been brought under the 1955 Act, which both resulted in convictions. A further prosecution under the Act remains outstanding.
