§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list legal safety requirements at present placed on public railways in the United Kingdom which could also be applicable to the circumstances of road transport; and if he will set out the methods needed to make them so.
§ Mr. EyreRailway safety is not, in general, regulated by statutary controls. Such controls as there are relate to such things as the need for interlocking between points and signals, the provision of continuous brakes on passenger trains, and the requirement of absolute block signalling on passenger lines. None of these is applicable to road safety.
