§ 27. Mr. Nelsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the effectiveness of community policing in rural areas and village communities.
§ Mr. MayhewWe believe that policing which is adapted to local circumstances and takes account of the wishes of the local community may increase the flow of information to the police about criminal activity, facilitate co-operation between the police and other agencies and improve the relationship between the police and the community. We shall continue to encourage the pursuit of those objectives.
