§ Mr. MayhewPowers of stop and search are available to the police in England and Wales under the following provisions in local legislation:
- Burnley Borough Improvement Act 1871, section 342
- City of London Police Act 1839, section 48
- County of Merseyside Act 1980, section 33
- Hertfordshire County Council Act 1935, section 130
- West Midlands County Council Act 1980, section 40
The foregoing powers are in addition to powers of stop and search conferred in public general legislation—including the Metropolitan Police Act 1839—and in private legislation promoted by statutory undertakers.
