§ Mr. Simsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps the Government of Hong Kong are taking for the promotion of recreation and culture in the territory.
§ Mr. RifkindThe Hong Kong Government, in cooperation wth community organisations, provide recreation, sporting and cultural venues and organise training classes, events and festivals centrally and in every district. The arts and Asian arts festivals are of international significance, as are new institutions such as the Jubilee sports centre, the Academy for the Performing Arts and the Hong Kong coliseum.
§ Mr. Simsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on the services provided for the physically and mentally handicapped in Hong Kong.
§ Mr. RifkindA wide range of day and residential services, including social, medical, educational and vocational training services, are provided for the physically and medically handicapped, with the aim of enabling them to develop their capabilities to the fullest possible extent. Services are monitored through a 10-year programme plan, reviewed annually on the advice of the rehabilitation development co-ordinating committee.
