HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 c382W
Dr. John Cunningham

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much strychnine has been sold under regulations made by him in England and Wales in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

Poisons rules made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department prohibit the sale of strychnine except under the authority of a permit issued by the appropriate agricultural department, and solely for mole control. In the years for which figures are readily available, purchase of the following amounts was so authorised in England and Wales:

Grammes
1979 38,823
1980 51,242
1981 52,988
