HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 c404W
Mr. Palmer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will carry out an investigation into the reasons for severe damp, in spite of the requirements of the building regulations, in local authority houses built during the past 20 years.

Sir George Young

The Building Research Establishment has recently carried out an investigation into the extent and cause of dampness in local authority housing. The study was not restricted to houses built in the last 20 years, and did not confine itself to matters subject to the building regulations. The report (Dampness: one week's complaints in five local authorities in England and Wales) has been published and is available from HMSO. A copy will be placed in the Library. Further field studies and investigation of remedial measures to combat problems of condensation have been commissioned.
