§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he has any plans to make an order under section 2(11)(b) of the Education Act 1980;
(2) how many governing bodies of schools in England include elected parent and teacher representatives as required by section 2 of the Education Act 1980.
§ Dr. BoysonSection 2 is, at the moment, mandatory only in the case of new schools and other cases where new instruments of government are made. With encouragement to make progess on a voluntary basis, about a third of local education authorities had made new-style arrangements by September 1982. Progress in the voluntary school sector has been slower but is gathering momentum. My right hon. Friend will shortly be considering the making of further orders under section 2(11)(b) requiring more general compliance with the Act.
