HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 cc411-2W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will list the ships taken up from trade during the Falkland Islands campaign, giving broad details of the role for which they were used, and indicating (a) those not registered in the United Kingdom and (b) those which were equipped with helipads.

Mr. Blaker

The information requested is given in the following table. All ships were United Kingdom registered except the MV "Fort Toronto", which was registered in Bermuda under the British flag. The MV "Stena Inspector" was changed from Swedish to United Kingdom registration prior to being taken up. The MV "Stena Inspector" and MV "Stena Seaspread" were already equipped with helicopter flight decks; the other vessels were specially fitted after being taken up.
