asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make representations to the authorities in the Soviet Union concerning the release from detention of Dr. Anatoly Koryagin; and if he will make a statement.

The Government have on a number of occasions made clear their views on the abuse of psychiatry for political purposes in the Soviet Union. The leader of the British delegation to the CSCE review meeting in Madrid raised Dr. Koryagin's case at a plenary session of the conference on 16 November 1982.
