§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has made an assessment of the extent to which cyclists are prevented from hearing on-coming motor traffic when they are listening to personal tape recorders whilst cycling; and whether the use of this type of equipment by cyclists constitutes a hazard to road safety.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI have no evidence that the use of this type of equipment is a road safety danger. But it seems to me only sensible that cyclists should take extra care if they are using it and we have advised them accordingly.
