§ 1. Viscount Cranborneasked the Secretary of State for Defence what will be the net change in pay in a British Army of the Rhine private soldier, taking into account the reduction in local overseas allowances and the next pay increase.
§ Mr. BlakerThe effect of the changes in rates of local overseas allowance for personnel stationed in Germany, before taking into account the 1982 pay award will be to reduce the present average overseas income of an Army private soldier by about 1½ per cent. for a single man. The LOA reductions for married personnel are being staged. They will mean a reduction in net overseas income of a married private in this financial year of 5 per cent. Against these reductions, the Forces in Germany will benefit from the annual Forces pay awards.
