§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the directions he has given and the nature of the routine references he has required from the London Dockland Development Corporation since it was established.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThree directions have been made which affect the activities of the London Docklands Development Corporation. They are:
- (i) London Docklands Development Corporation Direction 1981, made on 1 September 1981—under section 138 of the Local Government Planning and Land Act 1980. This imposes certain requirements on the corporation regarding consultation on planning applications and applications for listed building consent.
- (ii) Town and Country Planning (Development Plans) (Urban Development Corporations) (Greater London) Direction 1981, made on 1 September 1981—under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1977. This concerns the determination of planning applications which in the opinion of the corporation would conflict with or prejudice the implementation of a development plan.
- (iii) London Docklands Development Corporation (No. 2) Direction 1981, made on 14 October 1981—under section 138 of the Local Government Planning and Land Act 1980. This limits to the first three years of its existence the corporation's involvement in certain types of own-account development on land.
A copy of each of these directions is in the Library.
The corporation is required to refer details of projects which it proposes supporting to my Department for financial approval before commencement. Certain administrative expenditure is also required to be referred for approval.
