§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has now determined (a) the date on which wearing of seat belts will be compulsory and (b) which categories of drivers and front-seat passengers will be excluded.
§ Mrs. ChalkerMy right hon. Friend is currently considering the responses he has received to the statement of proposals for implementing compulsion he issued on 8 December. He expects to lay the regulations which will set out the categories of exemption after Easter. If these are approved, we would expect seat belt wearing to become compulsory during the late summer.
