HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c426W

Mr. Pawsey asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in the Official Report details of the number of houses sold by those housing associations who hold charitable status and by those without charitable status.

Mr. Stanley:

In the first 9 months of 1981 in Great Britain, apart from about 2,350 co-ownership sales, it is estimated there were about 1,000 other sales by housing associations, including improvement for sale, shared ownership sales and sales to sitting tenants. Of the other sales, roughly three-quarters were in categories relevant only to non-charitable associations, while the remainder could be made by either type of association.

Detailed figures will not be available until housing associations' financial year returns can be analysed.
