§ Mr. Formanasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether she will make a statement about the limits imposed on the advance of salary available to civil servants who have to move their homes as a result of being transferred in the public interest to a new place of work which is not within travelling distance of their old home.
§ Mr. Hayhoe:A civil servant who is obliged to move home on transfer in the public interest to a new place of work may be eligible for an advance of salary if the net proceeds of the sale of the existing property, if any, and the maximum mortgage available from commercial sources is not sufficient to cover the cost of a suitable property at the new station. The maximum advance payable within upper and lower limits is six months' pay, and this remains unchanged. The limits are adjusted from time to time in line with salary and house price movements. The upper limit will be revised to £9,500 with a further £1,000 for tranfers into London. The lower figure will be £3,375 plus an additional £1,000 for transfers into London.
