Natural Gas (Marketing)

Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether it will be open to the producers of natural gas under his proposals to market their product in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the European Community.

Mr. Gray:

My proposals are aimed at removing special privileges enjoyed by British Gas, so that it will be open to the producers themselves to supply their gas direct to the market. The proposals do not affect the requirement in production licences for the United Kingdom continental shelf that all petroleum won and saved must be delivered onshore in the United Kingdom unless I consent to delivery elsewhere.
