HC Deb 21 October 1981 vol 10 c155W

Mr. Skinner asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will seek to amend the provisions of the Social Security Act 1980 which have encouraged students to leave shool at Easter in order to become eligible for supplementary benefit thereby depriving them of taking GCE and CSE level examinations; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Renéee Short asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what further consideration he has given to the payment of supplementary benefit to unemployed school leavers immediately after they leave school in the summer; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs Chalker:

Comments on the effect of the rules, the monitoring of the summer term CSE examinations and other relevant information, such as the registration for work figures, are under consideration.
