Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of the following posts are held by women (a) primary school heads, (b) all promoted posts in secondary schools and (c) secondary school heads.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher:

At September 1979, the latest date for which the information is available, the percentage of the following posts in education authority schools that were held by women were:

(a) primary school headteachers 50.6
(b) all promoted posts in secondary schools 28.9
(c) secondary school headteachers 3.2

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will express in percentage terms the number of women employed in the following sectors (a) full-time nursery teaching staff, (b) primary school teaching staff, (c) secondary teaching staff, (d) lecturers in colleges of education and (e) lecturers in central institutions.

On the dates indicated the percentages of women in each of the five sectors were as follows:
