§ Mr. Nicholas Winterton
asked the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of those persons normally engaged in manufacturing industry are currently employed; and what is the percentage of those currently engaged in manufacturing industry as a percentage of total employment.
§ Mr. Peter Morrison:
The information is not available in the form requested.
However, it is estimated that in Great Britain, at June 1981, about 89 per cent. of manufacturing employees—defined as those, at that date, employed in manufacturing industries plus the unemployed who last worked in those industries—were in employment. At that date 29 per cent. of all employees in employment were engaged in manufacturing industries.
