HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 c44W
Mr. Chris Patten

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the United Kingdom's share of world motor cycle production in each year since 1945.

Mr. Norman Lamont:

The information asked for is not available. Information is available for United Kingdom motor cycle production since 1945, but not for world production. The Motor Cycle Association has published figures of production by the major producers in 1976 and 1977, but these countries represent only one-third of the countries in which motor cycles are produced—although the proportion of total production is probably much higher. Even so, the United Kingdom's share in the total production by these countries in these two years was less than 0.5 per cent.

Some information relating to all two-wheeled road motor vehicles—including mopeds, scooters, and so on—is published in "The United Nations Year Book of Industrial Statistics", a copy of which is available in the House of Commons Library.
