asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will state what progress he has been able to make within his area of responsibility during the United Kingdom's presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Mr. Lawson:

Useful progress has been made at official level on a range of issues in preparation for the meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers on 27 October. I shall inform the House of the outcome of that meeting when I return.
