HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 cc1-2W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is his estimate of the incidence of epilepsy in Northern Ireland.

Mr. John Patten:

Epilepsy is not a notifiable condition. The information requested is not held centrally, and could be compiled only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what funds his Department is granting to sponsor research into epilepsy; and if he intends to increase them.

Mr. John Patten:

No specifically Northern Ireland research projects on epilepsy are being funded at present. The health and social services in Northern Ireland benefit from national research.
