asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the cash limits for new towns for 1981–82.

Mr. Stanley

Two separate cash limits for the new towns were announced in Cmnd. 8175, as follows:

DOE/NT1 £140.3 million (housing and roads)
DOE/NT2 £ 39.1 million (commercial and industrial)
Total £179.4 million

This assumed special disposals of £73.4 million. To give development corporations greater flexibility, it has now been decided to amalgamate the two cash limits into one.

Deducting the assumed special disposals of £73.4 million from the total of £179.4 million, the new towns single cash limit will be:

DOE/NT1 £106.0 million
