§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East on 23 February, Official Report, c. 306, if he has ordered doctors to reduce doses of growth hormone to children to conserve supplies; if he will take action to increase supplies; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergWe have not issued any orders on the dosage of human growth hormone. This is a matter for the doctors concerned with treating the children and in this they are guided by the health services human growth hormone committee, whose members are drawn mainly from the directors of the growth clinics.
In order that the need for human growth hormone can continue to be met, it remains of crucial importance that all suitable pituitary glands are made available to the national collection. Improved arrangements to facilitate this collection have now been implemented.
