HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 c104W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the prescribed distance from the junction between a minor and a major road within which the upright "Give Way" sign must be located.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

There is no prescribed siting distance for "give way" signs in relation to junctions. The location of the sign must have regard to the particular site conditions in each case. The Department's traffic signs manual advises that these signs should normally be sited about 5ft. in advance of the "give way" line across the minor road, and not more than 20ft. in advance of it.
