Mr. Tilley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications have been received in each month of 1981 for (a) registration as a citizen and (b) naturalisation as a citizen.

Mr. Tilley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average time taken to process an application for citizenship by (a) registration and (b) naturalisation.

Mr. Raison

The current average time taken to complete the processing of an application for registration is 12 months where there is an entitlement to registration, and 28 months where registration is discretionary. The current average time to complete the processing of an application for naturalisation is 20 months.
