HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 c118W
Mr. McMahon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now make a statement on the most recent information regarding blood lead levels in pre-war housing and lead pipe water supply; and if he will consider some form of financial aid to local authorities and owner-occupiers who wish to deal with the removal of lead piping.

Mr. Rifkind

The Government will continue their policy publishing information as it becomes available. I have already proposed the extension of the house improvement grant scheme to enable grants to be given for the bypassing or replacement of lead plumbing. Local authorities who wish to deal with similar problems in their own houses will require to meet the cost out of their housing revenue account capital allocations.
