§ Mr. Ray Powellasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many males over the age of 60 years are 139W at present in receipt of unemployment benefit; and what is the total amount paid (a) to each person, (b) to husband and wife and (c) to registered disabled.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI have been asked to reply.
Because of the effects of industrial action, the latest available information relates to November 1980, before the uprating of benefits later that month. There were then 77,200 men aged 60 or over receiving unemployment benefit. the average weekly rate of unemployment benefit paid to them was £23.70 for a single man and £37.35 for a married man with an adult dependant. Registered disabled people are not separately identified in the statistics.
