HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 c136W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will consider setting up an investigation into the potential medical hazards such as the aggravation of lens opacities (cataract) of the increasing use of apparatus producing microwave radiation; and if he intends to tighten the rules and conditions governing the use of such apparatus by untrained people.

Mr. Waddington

The Health and Safety Executive is discussing with the National Radiological Protection Board whether there may be a need for further investigation of the possible effects of exposure to microwave radiation on human health, and will consider whether existing guidance to users should be updated or reinforced.
