§ 46. Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, as part of his objective of adjusting the common agricultural policy of the European Economic Community, he will initiate a study of national aids provided by member States.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerMy officials are constantly on the alert for national aids in other member States that infringe the Community's state aid provisions to the detriment of British interests. I am prepared to refer such aids to the Commission—which is responsible for implementing the relevant provisions of the Treaty—provided there is sufficient evidence to justify a complaint. A more detailed study would not be cost effective and would duplicate work for which the Commission is responsible.
