HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 c142W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to require the fitting of child resistant closures on all containers of such dangerous household items as bleach, disinfectants and turpentine.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

It would be impracticable to require child resistant closures for dangerous household products without a suitable standard. I think, therefore, we should now await the outcome of the work being carried out on a standard by the International Standards Organisation. Only when this work is complete can the case for requiring these closures be properly considered. What I regard as much more important is to require suitable warning labelling on such products as bleach and I intend to introduce regulations to this effect during the current Session of Parliament.
