HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 c142W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is his policy towards the proposed European Economic Community directive COM (81) 590 on tariffs for scheduled air transport between member States.

Mr. Sproat

While we will have some detailed comments on the directive we very much welcome the main principles of it and will give them our full support in discussions in the Council of Ministers. Since May of this year we have been urging the Commission to put forward such a draft directive so that we could make as much progress as possible with it during the United Kingdom Presidency. Unfortunately, we did not receive it until the end of October and, although we have arranged for urgent discussions, it is not realistic to expect that the Council could adopt it at its meeting on 15 December.
