The regional distribution of article 54 loans for modernisation and rationalisation projects in the steel industry and article 56 loans for projects providing new employment opportunities for ex-coal and steel workers is set out below. Similar information on article 54 loans to the coal industry and article 55 research grants is not readily available since payments are in the main made centrally to the National Coal Board and British Steel Corporation.
