§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of the 1980–81 expenditure by his Department on research and development of £39.8 million, and the 1981–82 figure of £32.8 million has been allocated to firms employing less than 200 people.
§ Sir George YoungI regret that this information is not available in respect of the Department's research budget as a whole. Of the building and engineering research and development element—approximately £1.9 million a year—about 70 per cent. has been allocated to private firms, all employing fewer than 200 people each.
