§ Mr. Mellorasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he proposes any change in the law affecting charges for instrumental music tuition.
§ Mr. Mark CarlisleI have at present no plans for legislation to allow charging for instrumental music tuition. I recognise that the present scale of instrumental music tuition is at risk in some parts of the country, a fact which must be a cause for concern because of the importance of young people's music-making in our national life; and I am arranging for my Department to discuss local education authorities' present practices and intentions with the local authority associations.
