HC Deb 27 March 1981 vol 1 c448W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the cost to the Exchequer of selling 175,000 tons of United Kingdom barley to Poland at half price.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

As part of a Community programme of food aid for Poland, 175,000 tonnes of United Kingdom barley are being supplied at prices around 15 per cent. below the world level, equivalent to about 70 per cent. of Community prices.

The cost to the Community budget of these special sales is about £5 million, just under half of which represents the 15 per cent. discount. The United Kingdom contributes to the Community budget as a whole at a rate of about 20 per cent.
