§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 19 March 1981, c. 176]: Doubling the pool betting duty would make pool betting uneconomic and thus eliminate the revenue from this duty. It is not possible to make a reliable estimate of the effect on the yield of the general betting duty because it is impracticable to predict reactions to increases of this magnitude.
