HC Deb 10 March 1981 vol 1000 c271W
35. Mr. William Shelton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on progress on the determination of teachers' pay for 1981–82.

Dr. Boyson

The Burnham primary and secondary committee agreed on 2 March 1980, subject to ratification by the teachers' panel, that the pay of teachers employed in maintained primary and secondary schools in England and Wales should be increased by 7½ per cent. from 1 April next.

Agreement on the same percentage increase in pay scales for teachers employed by local authorities in the provision of further education was reached in the Burnham further education committee on Monday 9 March 1980.
