HC Deb 02 March 1981 vol 1000 cc25-6W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Lord Privy Seal in which arms limitation or disarmament talks the Government are currently involved; whether nuclear arms limitation is part of such talks; and which other countries are also taking part.

Mr. Hurd

The Government take part, with the United States and the USSR, in the negotiations aimed at a comprehensive ban on nuclear tests.

The Vienna talks on mutual and balanced force reductions in Central Europe are concerned with conventional forces. Participants with the United Kingdom are Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey and the United States of America; and Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the USSR.

The Government also play a full part in NATO consultations on nuclear arms control, including strategic arms limitation talks and theatre nuclear forces; and in United Nations and other multilateral discussions of arms control and disarmament.
