§ Mr. Stan Thorneasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is satisfied that existing statutory requirements ensure that all genetic engineering experiments are conducted under appropriate containment provisions.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneI am advised by the Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 supplemented by the Health and Safety (Genetic Manipulation) Regulations 1978 ensure so far as possible that these experiments are conducted under appropriate containment conditions.
