§ Mr. Norman LamontFigures for the British Gas Corporation's capital expenditure are available by financial years only; the latest year for which published figures are available is 1979–80. In that year the whole of the corporation's capital expenditure—£343.4 million—was covered by retained income. Total funds generated from the corporation's operations were £889.6 million.
In 1969–70 about one-third of capital expenditure—£252.5 million, of which £51.4 million was expenditure on conversion of appliances to natural gas—was covered by retained income. Total funds generated from operations were £84.2 million.
