HL Deb 17 June 1981 vol 421 cc752-4WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many places were available and how many pupils there were at the most recent date in each of the primary and secondary schools of the Belfast Education and Library Board; and whether school numbers are likely to rise or fall significantly in future years.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Elton)

The pupil numbers and capacity of the schools controlled by the Belfast Education and Library Board at January 1980 are shown at Table A below.

It is not possible to break down the school population projection figures by area board. Table B therefore gives the most recent projections for the whole of Northern Ireland. In the primary sector the projected numbers fall until 1986 and then rise, while in the secondary sector the projected numbers fall until 1993 and then rise.
