HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 cc290-1W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total amount paid out in redundancy payments and associated benefits to former employees of non-departmental public bodies whose members he has appointed; and what was the average payment per employee and the range of such payments.

Mr. Heseltine

With regard to those non-departmental public bodies for which I have had responsibility, the following table sets out the required information in respect of redundancy payments made to former employees who qualified for such payments. In addition, the pensions of some staff made redundant will have been brought into payment earlier than would otherwise have been the case.

underoccupied; what is the estimated rental value of this space on the open market; and why the staff of the Midland road construction unit have not yet been moved in to occupy this surplus space.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

In March 1981 there was some 18,600 square feet of vacant office space in the Five Ways House complex. The rest of the space in the complex is fully occupied. The rental value of the vacant space on the open market is estimated to be £51,000 a year. It would not be practicable to make the space available for commercial letting, but there are proposals to use all the vacant space by Government Departments. On the Midland construction unit I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply he will receive today from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport.
