§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in the Official Report the percentage increase in salaries awarded on each occasion, since 1975 to: general practitioners, consultants, heads of nationalised industries, judges, principals and assistant secretaries in the Civil Service, nurses and teachers.
§ Mr. Peter Morrison[pursuant to his reply, 4 June 1981, c. 357]: My Department does not monitor pay settlements comprehensively or in detail, but I am informed by the Departments responsible for these groups that approximate average increases for the pay years starting 1 August 1975–76 to 1979–80 are as given in the table following. For 1980–81 primary and secondary school teachers in England and Wales have reached a 7½ per cent, setlement. No settlement for 1980–81 has yet been reached for civil servants or nurses.
For the pay arrangements for chairmen of nationalised industry boards for this and future years, I refer the hon. Member to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Perth and Perthshire (Mr. Walker) on 7 April—[Vol. 2, c. 220]. So far as general practitioners, consultants and judges are concerned for this year, I refer the hon. Member to the reply which the Prime Minister gave to my right hon. Friend the Member for Taunton (Mr. du Cann) on 15 May.—[Vol. 4, c. 343].
