HC Deb 12 June 1981 vol 6 c224W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek to increase the non-contributory benefits for disabled people as proposed at the last annual general meeting of the Disablement Income Group (Scotland).

Mr. Rossi

The Government have maintained the value of these benefits by raising them annually along with other social security benefits. Resources are not available for a general increase in benefits which would improve their purchasing power, although mobility allowance has gone up in real terms in recognition of the needs of people with severe mobility problems.
