§ Dr. BoysonIt is estimated that, of the 643,800 leavers from English maintained schools in 1978–79, 98,200 had attempted CSE, but not O-level examinations in French, 103,500 had attempted O-level and 13,700 had attempted A-level in French. CSE grade 1 but no O-level grades A to C was achieved by 12,700, O-level grades A to C were achieved by 65,400. Other grades at CSE or O-level were achieved by 108,500. A-level passes in French were achieved by 10,200 leavers.
