§ Mr. Allen McKayasked the Secretary of State for Employment why he amended the rules relating to the second and subsequent applications for the temporary short-time working compensation scheme as from 1 April; 98W and if he will reconsider the change in view of its effect on industries in the Penistone constituency where many hundreds of workmen have lost their jobs as a result.
Mr. Peter Morrison f[pursuant to his reply, 8 June 1981, c. 26]: It has always been the case that no jobs can be supported more than once under the temporary short-time working compensation scheme and that second and subsequent applications must be in respect of different jobs. Procedures have been tightened up to ensure that this rule has been observed. It the hon. Member considers that companies in his constituency have been unfairly treated, I should be grateful if he would let me have the details and I will look into them.
