§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the burdens and costs placed on certain local authorities in consequence of the practice 115W of other authorities placing homeless families in bed and breakfast and other similar accommodation outside their own areas, he will make provision in the rate support grant for these additional costs falling on the recipient authorities.
§ Mr. KingThe cost to authorities of operating the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977, including the cost of providing bed and breakfast accommodation, is one of the issues being examined in the review of the Act which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment hopes to conclude shortly. However, the cost of providing temporary accommodation, wherever it is located, falls initially on the authority making the arrangements.
