HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c42W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been spent to date on capital works undertaken for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in King Charles Street, SW1; and what further sums are likely to be required to complete the work; under what heading of Government expenditure or in what part of the Estimates this expenditure appears; what is the nature of the work currently being undertaken in the buildings adjacent to King Charles Street, SW1; and up to what figure of expenditure approval has been given for the works being undertaken.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

£3.4 million has been spent so far on construction work within the old Public Offices to adapt them for use by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The latest estimate is that a further £1.4 million will be required to complete the project. The expenditure is charged to Class XIV, Vote 1 (office and general accomodation services).

Work is also being undertaken in the Government offices in Great George Street, the north side of which faces King Charles Street, to provide additional accommodation for the Central Statistical Office computer. The cost of this project is estimated at £600,000.
